DILIT IH

Via Marghera, 22 - 185 - Roma,  Rome (Italy - Europe) COURSES:
Italian, Italian for Biz., Other Arts, Photography
  • Dilit (Divulgazione Lingua Italiana), established in 1974, was one of the first language schools in Italy to teach Italian as a Foreign Language and has established itself as one of the most prestigious Italian Language Schools in the country today.

It is part of International House, the well-known world-wide organisation of 120 language schools.

Apart from its Italian Language Courses, Dilit International House is also well-known and appreciated in Italy and abroad for its Teacher Education Courses for Teachers of Italian and the publication of course books and other language teaching materials.

    TEACHERS
The teachers are all native speakers and hold both a university degree and a diploma in the teaching of their mother tongue as a foreign language. Dilit-International House is also well-known for its Teacher-training Centre (Accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education). Each year more than 50 teacher-trainees obtain their teaching diploma and those with the highest grade are selected to form part of the teaching staff of the school.

At present, the school employs 24 teachers who have been teaching in the school for an average of 10 years. All the teachers have a regular work contract. One hour per week of each teacher's contract hours is devoted to professional development. This development is implemented by means of monthly teacher education seminars organised by the Teacher Training Department. This is all reflected by the high level of professionalism and responsibility of the teachers towards the school and all the students.

    STUDENTS
The school caters for students from all over the world at all levels and with a wide variety of needs. The minimum age is 16. Each year about 2000 students from more than 60 countries come to Dilit-International House. This situation avoids the concentration of students of the same nationality and favours the use of Italian outside the classroom and the exchange between different peoples and cultures.

    METHODOLOGY
Dilit -IH was one of the first schools to adopt a fully communicative approach to the teaching of Italian, and the approach is being up-dated all the time. Language is never presented out of context; and grammar, phonology, lexis and all other features of actual language use in everyday situations are analysed.

A wide variety of up-to-date authentic material is used in class, thus giving the students valuable information about modern-day Italian culture and society at the same time as developing the students' authentic linguistic and communicative skills. Amongst the principal techniques and procedures employed in class are: communicative tasks, group work, and dramatisation. The accent is on activity rather than on passive receptivity.
