International House Milano, officially recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education , offers a wide variety of Italian courses all year round, priding itself on a professional, yet personal approach to language learning.
The school became a member of ASILS , the Association of Schools of Italian as a Second Language, in June 2003.
History
International House Milano was founded as Centro Lingue Tradint in 1982 by Sieglinde Wolcan and Claudio Tedesco. It has been an Affiliate Member of the International House World Organisation (IHWO) since 1997.
It is also affiliated to AiSLi (Italian Association of Language Schools) and to Federcentri (Federazione Nazionale Centri di Traduzione e Interpretariato). Both AiSLi and the International House World Organisation are associate members of EAQUALS (European Association for Quality Language Services).
The school in San Donato Milanese was opened in 1983 and in 2000 they moved to the more modern and bigger premises of via Alfonsine 40.
In 1997 we affiliated to the IHWO and opened our second school in an elegant building in Milan city centre, only 10 minutes walk from the Cathedral (Duomo).
International House Milano has vast experience in language teaching, company training, teacher training, translating and interpreting, and we cater for both companies and private individuals.
The school offers the following facilities and services:
11 classrooms, all fully equipped with video and audio facilities
a cosy common room, where you can relax, have a chat while drinking a cappuccino or work individually at one of the desks
listening facilities and computers
free Internet access
free video and book hire
accommodation finding service
pick-up service from and to the airport
student's card, which gives discounts in selected bars, restaurants, shops and bookstores
Teaching Method
All our teachers are qualified native speakers who posses a University degree and the International House Certificate. They have expert teaching skills and are trained to respond to the individual needs of the students.
The IH Certificate enables them to teach Italian to foreigners using the Communicative Method:
from the very first lesson, the teacher uses only Italian in class
the sudents are able to understand thanks to the teacher's use of mime, drawings and pictures, and can quickly develop the ability to understand the language
teachers aim to develop the student's skill in communicattion during the class through role-play and group work. Grammar is seen as just one of the elements in the course, not as an end itself
reading, speaking and understanding are practised in real contexts
in a short space of time, students will be able to notice their progress, using Italian confidently in a wide variety of situations
Why students choose IH Milano:
You can find us in the heart of the city, in a nice pedestrianised square
All our teachers have a University degree and the IH Certificate that enables them to teach Italian as a foreign language
We are a recognised exam centre for the University of Perugia Certificates - CELI and CIC
Many years of experience in company-based tuition and in specialised one-to-one classes for professionals
There is a maximum of 8 students per class
Students from over 45 nations chose IH Milano in 2003

Our morning group courses run all year round.
They include the unique special Friday lessons opportunity, every Friday at 11.30.
They are a stimulating practice programme to make Milan part of the learning experience. Students prepare the activities in class with the help of pictures, texts and specific tasks, that they will have to complete in pairs and groups at the chosen location, with the help of their teachers. Locations include Palazzo Reale, IED Design and Moda Lab, Univerisity of Milano, Sozzani Art Gallery in 10 Corso Como, Castello Sforzesco and many more.
Special Friday lessons also include treasure hunts, quizzes and games!
Morning group courses offer two options:
Standard
This course is ideal for students who can dedicate themselves completely to studying Italian
Intensive
This course combines the Standard Course with the benefit of 8 extra lessons per week in the afternoon, during which students focus on project work and specific aspects such as conversation, pronunciation, grammar, listening, vocabulary and Internet research.
