    TEACHING METHOD

    Our Teaching method takes full account of modern didactics and is oriented towards the "Foreign Language Concept of the Council of Europe" and the "Guidelines of the Accademia Italiana di Lingua (AIL)".

    The Leonardo da Vinci schools teach according to the Direct Method: from the first day on, at all levels, only Italian will be spoken.

    We emphasize the spoken language and live language. Continually stressing the use of verbal communication permits you to learn Italian "naturally", to unite theory and practice easily and to increase your knowledge quickly and with confidence. The structure of the language and its practical application is very important. Advanced courses also practice the written language.

    Our teaching staff consists of young teams of experienced language teachers, all of whom studied at University and who have been specially trained in teaching Italian to foreigners.

    Most of the teaching material has been developed by our schools and is excellently suited to the needs and requirements of the students. Thanks to a permanent work group the didactic material is continuously updated and adapted to the newest research on teaching languages to foreigners.

    But learning Italian does not consist, for us at the Leonardo da Vinci schools, in just teaching grammar and vocabulary. We want to allow our students to gain insight into the Italian way of living and thinking. That is why we offer, in addition to the language courses, a whole range of italian culture extracurricular activities for our students.

    FIRST SCHOOL DAY

    On the first school day there is an entry test (written and oral), testing the student's knowledge of the Italian language.
    Beginners will join a pilot course which is aimed to divide complete beginners from students with a little knowledge of the Italian language.

    LEVELS OF ABILITY

    Our schools offer courses on 6 monthly ability levels (subdivided on 12 ability levels ot two weeks, each), following the Assessment Grid of the European Language Portfolio (ELP), based on the assessment grid of Schneider/North.

    The "Repubblica" stop of the underground A line and the "Cavour" stop of B line are very close to the school.

    Italian Language Courses in Rome
    Ciao Italia is open the whole year round and offers courses for all levels from beginners to advanced: group courses (maximum 12 students), individual teaching, business, art and painting vacation courses in Tuscany.

    On arrival students take an entry test and are placed in classes according to their levels and their particular needs.

    The didactic methods used by CiaoItalia are the result of the director and teachers' extensive experience in the field. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere encourages quick and easy learning of the language.

    The teaching program is uniform. The teachers, all native speakers, are highly qualified in the teaching of Italian as a second language. Each teacher uses the communicative approach with an analysis of grammatical structures and the language of daily life. Thanks to the teachers’ professional approach and enthusiasm, learning Italian will not only be rewarding but also fun.

    A wide variety of up-to date authentic material is used in group work, role-play and other activities, allowing the student to be in control of his learning process.

    The teaching structure breaks down into 5 levels:

    • Level 1, for absolute beginners;
    • Level 2, elementary: for those who have some basic knowledge;
    • Level 3, pre-intermediate: more complex sentences and terms
    • Level 4, intermediate: higher comprehension of spoken and written Italian.
    • Level 5, advanced: is for students who have a good knowledge of the language, both theoretical and practical. It deals with specific linguistic problems in the written and spoken language according to the students' need, and prepares students for the University entrance exam or the I.T. and C.I.L.S. certificates (Università di Roma Tre and Università per Stranieri di Siena). A full mastery of Italian is achieved.
